I’m Gerrit Schöne. I travel through Europe, where I code and train.
I grew up in northern Germany and spent much of my childhood playing soccer. While I enjoyed the sport, I was always on the heavier side and struggled with my weight. At the same time, I developed a strong interest in programming at a young age. I was fascinated by how things worked behind the scenes, which led me to modding private servers for various MMORPGs and experimenting with coding projects on my own.
After finishing school, I pursued a degree in computer science, which I completed over six years before beginning my career as a software developer in 2021. My time at university was both challenging and rewarding, as it strengthened my problem-solving skills and deepened my understanding of software development. Eventually, I transitioned into full-time work, turning my passion for coding into a professional career.
In 2022, I had the opportunity to live in Portugal, Spain, and Norway for several months with a close friend. This experience introduced me to the digital nomad lifestyle, and I quickly came to appreciate the flexibility and adventure it offered. After returning home to Germany later that year, I set myself a new challenge—training for my first triathlon. What started with a sprint-distance race in 2023 quickly evolved into preparing for a middle-distance event in late 2024. Along the way, I lost a significant amount of weight, improved my fitness, and discovered a true passion for the sport.
However, after completing my middle-distance triathlon, I struggled to maintain consistency. Without a clear goal, I lost focus, regained weight, and found myself stuck in a routine. Wanting to break free from my comfort zone, I made the decision to cancel my lease and fully embrace the digital nomad lifestyle once again. Now, while continuing my career as a software developer, I am also focused on reigniting my triathlon training and striving to become a top age-group athlete.
